The Queens Retreat Penthouse On Queen Street

If you are coming to visit Auckland, this is the place to stay. It's very central to all the best places in the city. The apartment was superb, spacious and clean. It has fantastic views of the city too. I highly recommend staying here if you are visiting Auckland. Stefan is a great host and very responsive.

We had a fantastic stay. Everything was great. My only small caveat is that the bed could have been more comfortable - the install of mattress topper would be such an improvement. Stefan was extremely responsive to any communication between us. Highly recommend the venue for anyone looking to stay in the CBD of Auckland

We had a great stay at The Queens Retreat and would rate it 4/5 overall. The check-in process was smooth and easy to follow (5/5), with clear instructions and quick access. The host was very responsive, friendly, and proactive in communication, (5/5). The cleanliness was generally good (4/5), with spotless linens and furniture, the bathroom was generally clean, with only minor wear around the grout in the shower, which didn’t detract from the overall cleanliness or comfort of the space. It’s worth mentioning, but certainly not a dealbreaker for us. The location was accurately described (4/5), with plenty to do nearby, great dining options, and a private feel. However, it was noisy at times due to its central location. For the price we paid, we felt it was a solid value (4/5). Considering the location and amenities, it offered good bang for the buck compared to similar properties in the area, though there’s always room for small improvements.

Location, location, location! This place was so convenient to everything..shopping, groceries, entertainment, metro, tour buses…no lack of something to do or see. So much within walking distance. Views from balcony were so enjoyable. Frequently, talented people in the square provided us music in the distance/background to enjoy in the evening. A truly fabulous town to visit.

The apartment is in an excellent location, very central but it is very noisy from street noise below. Spacious and light filled, comfortable beds and excellent kitchen facilities and large bathroom. There were a few things communicated to host that we had issues with including the blocked sink in bathroom, bedroom blind not working and coffee machine also broken. Also Murphy bed was not made up as requested on arrival so we had to make it ourselves. As building is very old, the doors and windows are hard to open so fresh air a problem, air con or ceiling fans would be make it much more comfortable. Overall a good stay but room for improvement.

Unfortunately there was a major plumbing issue that caused the bathroom drains to be blocked. Thankfully this has now been resolved. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. We have checked the bedroom blind and it's working fine. We will make the instructions clearer for future guests. Thank you for bringing the broken coffee machine to our attention. This will be looked into. Apologies that the murphy bed was not made on your arrival. This request was not passed onto our housekeepers so we are very sorry for this oversight. Overall the apartment was great for what we needed. The location is great and the apartment is spacious and had everything we needed. It was however a little annoying that the booking was made for 4 people and only 1 bed was made on arrival. The bathroom basin was also left dirty with hair and cleaning products around the outskirts. We had issues with the TV as it needed a code to access and it wasn’t provided until the day after arrival.

For almost $400 a night for 3 nights the stay was not up to standard. Firstly the bathroom sink blocked after the first night and we only stayed for 3 nights. Then the hot water ran out and it was due to a flicked switch however the plumber who attended advise it was working. The blocked sink was not fixed during our stay therefore unusable for the remaining two nights. Overall the airbnb was OK but I wouldn’t recommend this apartment to anyone. It’s not as pretty or as new as the photos make it to be. What made our stay great was the location being right in the middle of the city so was very easy to get to places. However the property itself was definitely overpriced and would not stay here again.

There was a serious plumbing issue in the apartment which was not able to be resolved quickly. The drain has since been unblocked and everything is working as normal.

The Queens Retreat was a great place to stay for us. It is only a short walk away from all public transport, so we got to see more in the city and surrounding suburbs. Ideal spot for shopping and sight seeing. The apartment was really comfy and felt like a home away from home. The views were spectacular from the balcony and there was plenty of room to stretch out after a long day of travelling. The instructions for check in and check out were easy. We will stay again if we go back to Auckland. Thanks Stefan.

The apartment itself was nice. Had issues with no blinds in the bedroom for the first night so was very bright and poor communication getting the problem sorted. The apartment is fairly noisy with road noise.

Excellent place. Well appointed. Instructions were clear and precise. Parking was a challenge, but that is just something to be aware of if it applies. Would definitely stay here again if I had the opportunity.

You can't go wrong with this location - the convenience of being able to walk everywhere was fabulous. Travelling with kids meant that the washing machine alone made it worthwhile for us, as opposed to a hotel room. If I were to nitpick it would only be to say that unfortunately there was a lot more road noise than I anticipated, and that it was quite dark in the lounge area at night even with all lights on, but that's not a huge drama. All in all very happy with our stay. Some advice - don't try to be kind and leave unopened beer or water for the cleaners, they will charge for "garbage disposal"!

very tidy, all the comforts of home provided. I did find VERY early constructions and 4 am fire alarm to be a bit annoying but nothing to fault the host. The apartment was cozy and looked as expected from pictures. The location was superb. Overall it was a nice place to stay and would highly recommend.

Walking past this building as a child there used to be a $5 note under a plastic cover in the pavement, I'm sure every child had tried to have a go at removing it! I still don't know what it represented! when this place popped up on Airbnb it brought back those memories so I had to stay here !. Stefan was great my request to stay was answered and accepted within 30 mins, all the info needed for checking-in was sent straightaway, I was able to check-in early for a small cost ! the description was exactly as described personally it was better and it had everything plus more you could need, the highlight was the balconies, most older buildings and hotels don't have balconies Stefan's apartment has 3 and the view is awesome and very entertaining especially if you like people watching you won't be disappointed especially over the weekends... I would happily suggest and stay in Stefan's place again.. Thanks Jase

was worried we'd be cold as only electric heaters. however, once we got the chill off it was very comfortable. oh and we are old 60+, so too many gadgets to work out ... ??. had a great stay, the two weeks went way to quickly. would absolutely stay there again. ?
